‘Positive Energy’ – A blog by Philip King FICM, Chief Executive

09 January 2014

So 2014 is here and I hope you benefited from a relaxing and rejuvenating break over Christmas. I certainly did, and the festive season was made all the more magical by the presence of my four month old grandson.

It seems we’re in for a good year. All the forecasts and predictions are of a buoyant economy that is recovering even if the Chancellor is warning of more cuts and pain ahead. Businesses are reportedly feeling positive about their future with surveys from business organisations identifying trends suggesting investment, recruitment and/or expansion are within their sights.

The ICM is feeling similarly positive. It’s our election year so we’ll see changes in our governance, we’ll be building on the successes of the last twelve months, and we have some exciting plans ahead. Starting the year in a positive frame of mind is good, and I’m reminded of Winston Churchill’s words: ‘Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.’

For many, including the ICM, the last few years have been tough but 2013 was great, and 2014 promises to be even better. Maintaining a positive attitude is a worthwhile mantra and will help keep us on track as the year progresses.
