How to get started
Most people start with an ICM Certificate in Credit Management and choose either two knowledge units or four skills units.
How long will it take?
Generally it takes one year to gain an ICM Certificate and two years for an ICM Diploma.
What if I have studies similar subjects before?
If you have passed similar units, at the same level or above, you can apply for an exemption.
Does it matter which route I take?
Not really, although if you want to progress to the ICM Level 5 Diploma for MICM(Grad) you will need four Level 3 passes for the knowledge units, and so you’ll progress more quickly if you start with these.
How can I prepare for Skills units?
Contact the ICM Awarding Body for an assignment and then attend training. If your company does not run training, look out for workshops and coaches in the Study Update or ICM Briefing.
What support is there for knowledge units?
You can study for units such as Credit Management and Business Environment via evening classes, through the ICM virtual classroom, by supported distance learning or through unsupported home study. ICM bookshop stocks a range of study texts, revision aids, sample online questions and past question papers.
When can I start?
You can start studying at any time by unsupported or supported home study, just buy learning materials and register with a learning provider or coach. Evening classes start in January and September and tend to involve three hour classes over four months or one and a half hour classes over ten months. Virtual classrooms start in January, June and September and usually involve ten tutor-led sessions of one and a half hours.
How much time will I need for studying each week?
You should set aside at least 6 hours a week (including tuition time).
