ICM North Staffordshire
Joint event is a success
In October 2010 a presentation was held jointly with the Cheshire & Staffordshire AAT Branch on the Debt Collection through the County Court by KJD Solicitors. The venue for the presentation was the Law lecture hall at the Staffordshire University which added to the atmosphere. The presentation was well received by both the ICM and AAT membership.
A well attended event presented a mock court scenario highlighting the potential pitfalls in pursuing debts through the courts. Not only did the presentation portray aspects of a typical debtors hearing, but the supporting bundle of documents raised questions concerning a company’s administration and the protocol of credit management and debt collection as a whole.
Special thanks go to Deputy District Judge David McQueen who kindly presided over the proceedings that were acted by Nicola Adams of Myers & Co for the Claimant, and Iain Bould of Beswicks as the defendant.
The branch committee would also like to thank Martin Cork of KJD Freeth for his efforts in organising the presentation. The event has generated a very positive response from both ICM and AAT members and the branch is already planning a further joint presentation in coming months.
Annual General Meeting 2010
The AGM and presentation of February 2010 was poorly attended with only six Branch Members attending being insufficient numbers to form a quorum to conduct the business of the AGM. However the existing Committee Members who attended the meeting agreed to continue in their current posts and to maintain the existence of the Branch.
The presentation was given by Moore Stephens on the recent changes to the Company Insolvency Laws and Regulations - the content of the presentation was well delivered and informative and a lively question and answer session followed.
